This room was sealed.

There were only two exits to the outside. One was a tightly locked wooden door with a brass lock. At first, Ruan Qiu intended to break the lock by force, but after her previous experience at the manor, the director had anticipated her trying to smash her way out. To prevent this, they had posted a note on the door saying that a key was required to open it.

Seeing the note, Ruan Qiu regretfully withdrew her hand.

The other exit was a slide, but it was extremely slippery, making it difficult to climb out. Moreover, the rules clearly stated that to pass through the haunted house, they had to exit via the proper exit, and climbing up the slide would lead them back to the entrance. Leaving through the entrance would count as breaking the rules.

Their top priority now was to find the key to unlock the door.

As Ruan Qiu moved around the room, Xue Wu’s gaze followed her intently. Xue Wu’s fans, watching the live stream, were covering their faces in embarrassment, unable to watch.

Earlier, netizens had begun spreading rumors on Weibo, analyzing Xue Wu’s supposed flirting tactics toward Ruan Qiu. His fans were shocked after seeing this, unable to believe that their idol, known for his dedication to his career and nicknamed the acting fanatic, would try to flirt with a girl.

Sigh, love really turned people into cunning foxes.

After pacing around the room, Ruan Qiu began to carefully examine its furnishings. A red wedding dress embroidered with gold-threaded phoenixes hung from a wooden rack. Aside from that, the room contained only a dusty wooden table and an equally dusty, empty bed.

Ruan Qiu felt that the red wedding dress stood out too much and seemed suspicious, so she and Xue Wu decided to check the bed frame first, along with the drawerless wooden table.

The bed was an old-fashioned wooden one with four bedposts. A thick wooden panel blocked the underside of the bed, and thin wooden slats formed the canopy. Ruan Qiu’s gaze lingered on the side of the bed, where she noticed many uneven marks, as if they had been scratched out by long fingernails.

Finding nothing else on the bed, Ruan Qiu raised her flashlight to inspect the canopy, but unfortunately, there was nothing there except for some cobwebs.

[This feels like an immersive horror game.]

[I’ve never watched anything horror-related before—didn’t even listen to ghost stories—but now I’m watching a livestream just to ship a couple. Who can relate?]

[I totally get it! I’m scared, but I can’t stop watching. Ruan Ruan, please hurry up and find clues so you can leave the haunted house!]

At the same time, Xue Wu crouched down and shone his flashlight under the bed—

He froze.

A white figure had suddenly appeared in the once-dark space beneath the bed. It looked like a person. The figure slowly lifted its head and revealed half a face to Xue Wu.

With long black hair draped over her shoulders, the “female ghost” in white had blood-red eyes, and her face, illuminated by the flashlight, was deathly pale. She smiled faintly at him.

The “female ghost” slowly stretched out her hand. Her smile grew wider, and as she moved, two streams of blood tears began to flow from her eyes. She parted her lips slightly, as if trying to say something.

[AAAAAHHHH!!!]

[What the %@$#?!!!]

[I’m going to kill you, Director!!]

The comment section was filled with screams of terror, yet Xue Wu’s hand holding the flashlight didn’t even tremble. He calmly turned his head and said to Ruan Qiu, who was standing by the bed, “There’s someone under the bed.”

The “female ghost” under the bed: … Why didn’t he scream?

Ruan Qiu blinked.

She had already adjusted her mindset. Since the director had promised they wouldn’t “die” this time, and the ghosts in the haunted house were just staff members in costume, she only needed to focus on completing her tasks without worrying about anything else.

She hadn’t sensed a third person’s presence earlier, so the person under the bed must have just arrived.

Ruan Qiu gracefully hopped down to the floor, walked over to Xue Wu, and crouched beside him to peer under the bed.

There was nothing.

The space under the bed was completely empty—no person, no ghost.

[Wait, did I just imagine that?]

[It’s impossible for so many of us to have seen the same thing. Why didn’t the director give us a jump scare warning? I swear I’ll stop watching the livestream if this keeps happening!]

[Help, how are Xue Wu and Ruan Qiu so fearless? I nearly threw my phone across the room just now!]

[Are they even human? How are they so calm in such a terrifying situation?]

Xue Wu frowned slightly and turned to Ruan Qiu. “There was something under the bed just now.”

“Mhm,” Ruan Qiu nodded. “I believe you.”

She pointed to the gaps between the wooden floorboards beneath the bed. “This looks a lot like the trapdoor mechanism we fell through when we first entered. The person you saw probably went down through here.”

Backstage, the director immediately tensed up, worried that Ruan Qiu might try to force her way out through the trapdoor. He was about to order the crew to lock the passage, but Ruan Qiu merely glanced at it before looking away. She said to Xue Wu, “Let’s keep searching for the key.”

In scenarios like this, following the rules was the safest choice. Unless there was no other option or they were completely lost, Ruan Qiu wouldn’t choose any alternative means of passing through.

Xue Wu nodded and followed her to the wooden table. Their calm demeanor made it seem as if the terrifying scene from moments before had never even happened.

Seeing how composed the two were, walking around the escape room as if it were their own home, the audience gradually relaxed and resumed watching the livestream.

This time, Ruan Qiu crouched down and shone her flashlight under the table. She saw a red, unknown liquid slowly trickling down the wooden surface. The liquid hadn’t fully dried yet and was still dripping, leaving round red stains on the floor.

It seemed like someone had hastily smeared the red substance under the table just a short while ago. In their panic, they had left a large, single word:

RUN!
