Female Partner Became Popular in a Love Show - Chapter 134
Ruan Qiu’s gaze drifted from the almost torn-apart exclamation mark back to the message. She turned and tugged on Xue Wu’s sleeve, motioning for him to crouch down and take a look as well.
Pointing to the hurried but impactful red message under the table, she said, “Is this a warning for us to leave?”
Xue Wu replied, “I think so.”
Though they both acknowledged the warning, their expressions remained indifferent, as if the blood-red writing had no effect on them whatsoever. The director backstage was stomping his feet in frustration, and the audience was furiously commenting that their nonchalant attitudes were completely destroying the spooky atmosphere. The stark contrast between them and the terrified reactions of Ye Xingyu and Qi Yingying in the other room made for an amusing comparison.
As Ruan Qiu and Xue Wu prepared to check the last unexplored area—the red wedding dress hanging on the wooden rack—on the other side of the haunted house, Ye Xingyu and Qi Yingying were finally ready to face their fears and approached the wooden wardrobe, hoping to find clues.
Though neither of them was particularly scared of ghosts, they were still on edge, worried that something might jump out at them. Standing tense in the room, they swept their flashlights around, confirming that there was only a bed and a wardrobe. Once they felt somewhat reassured, Qi Yingying suggested, “Should we open the wardrobe?”
“Be careful. I’m worried it might be a wardrobe kill.'” Ye Xingyu glanced at Qi Yingying’s puzzled expression and explained, “It’s a term from horror games. Basically, if there’s something inside the wardrobe and we open it without being prepared, we could easily get ‘killed’ by the ghost.'”
Qi Yingying nodded. “Got it.”
Ye Xingyu cleared his throat, trying to muster his courage and show off a bit. He patted his chest and heroically offered, “I’ll open it.”
Qi Yingying, who was keen to avoid touching the cobwebs on the wardrobe, agreed with a nod. “Good luck!”
The two exchanged a knowing smile, back to their usual playful selves as if they hadn’t just been bickering in the slide earlier.
[Haha, sorry, even though their exchange is cute, I can’t stop thinking about how they were just fighting earlier.]
[I think I prefer their natural interactions like this. The overly staged stuff feels forced.]
[Yeah, but it’s all part of the job. Not everyone can be as genuine as Xue Wu and Ruan Qiu.]
Ye Xingyu cautiously approached the half-open wardrobe. It was a simple, unadorned wooden piece with no decorations. He used his flashlight to nudge the door, and it creaked open with a piercing sound that echoed in the otherwise silent room.
Seeing that there didn’t appear to be anything inside, Ye Xingyu felt relieved and reached for the door to pull it open fully, stepping back as he did so.
It was a good thing he stepped back because the moment he opened the door, a humanoid figure shot out from inside, nearly hitting him and Qi Yingying in the face.
The viewers, many of whom had just retreated to this livestream after being scared in Ruan Qiu and Xue Wu’s stream, found themselves jolted yet again. The comments exploded with screams and curses. Qi Yingying almost screamed too but managed to stop herself, as she had been holding her mouth shut with one hand since Ye Xingyu approached the wardrobe. She hadn’t faced the thing directly, so the scream got stuck in her throat, saving her from being eliminated.
Ye Xingyu, however, was completely stunned, too shocked to even scream.
Both of them froze in place for about three seconds before snapping out of it and bolting away, pressing themselves against the locked door. Panting heavily, they shone their flashlights cautiously back at the object that had jumped out.
[Didn’t Ye Xingyu and Qi Yingying say they weren’t scared of ghosts?]
[Not being scared of ghosts is one thing, but sudden jumpscares in the dark are another. They’re actually handling it pretty well compared to most people. Still, they’re not quite on the level of Xue Wu and Ruan Qiu.]
[Xue Wu and Ruan Qiu are on a whole different level of fearlessness…]
[So what was that thing that jumped out?]
Qi Yingying and Ye Xingyu held their breath as their flashlights converged on the humanoid figure—
It was a dummy, stitched together from fabric.
Both of them sighed in relief almost simultaneously. They exchanged a look, perfectly in sync for once.
They quickly decided to leave the dummy alone for now and focus on finding more clues. They, too, noticed the locked door with a four-digit combination lock. To escape, they would have to find the code. Carefully walking around the bizarrely positioned dummy, they headed over to the wooden bed.
This bed looked almost identical to the one in Ruan Qiu and Xue Wu’s room, only more dilapidated and smaller. Ye Xingyu and Qi Yingying gave it a quick scan with their flashlights, found nothing, and turned their attention back to the dummy.
Ye Xingyu turned to Qi Yingying. “I opened the wardrobe. How about you check the dummy for clues this time?”
Forget chivalry; survival came first.
Qi Yingying stared at him for a moment, then looked at the dummy, deciding that it wasn’t all that dirty. She reluctantly agreed and prepared to search it for clues.
[Haha, Ye Xingyu is such a coward! (Judging glare)]
[Neither of them is checking under the bed? They didn’t even check under the wardrobe.]
[That’s a good thing. Ignorance is bliss. If they had checked, I bet they both would have screamed and gotten eliminated.]
[Is there something under the bed?!]
[Go check out Ruan Qiu and Xue Wu’s livestream. They just checked under the bed and found a ghost.]
[But just because Ruan Qiu found something doesn’t mean there’s anything here… Wait, hold on, there’s actually something under the bed! Did you guys see that?!]
Qi Yingying and Ye Xingyu had no idea there was someone else in the room with them. Summoning her courage, Qi Yingying approached the dummy under the intense gaze of the chat. She reached into the long dress’s pocket and pulled out a note.
In a soft voice, Qi Yingying read the note aloud, “I still remember the first time Madam came to the house. Everyone was talking about her beauty, but I couldn’t believe she would marry that cruel Master. The Master loved locking people in the dark room, making them scream in terror. How could Madam endure that?”
“But then she really did marry him, though it was against her will. At first, she tried to escape the marriage, but he beat her. Later, I overheard him in a rage, accusing her of infidelity. He broke her legs so she could never run again and said her lover was already dead.”
