She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 30
The Lord Zombie couldn’t resist the aroma any longer. Like Xiao San and the others, he didn’t bother with the bones, grabbing a whole fish and crunching it down.
He ate faster than anyone else, and as soon as he finished, he extended his hand, “More!”
San Wu served him some stir-fried pig trotters. “After you finish this, you can have pig trotter and bean sprout soup.”
The Lord Zombie didn’t understand. “All for me.”
“No,” San Wu tasted a spoonful of bean sprout soup. The sprouts were crisp and fresh, complementing the pig trotters without overwhelming them. “At home, we all eat together.”
The Lord Zombie silently gnawed on the pig trotter.
He scanned the group. San Wu was the one who cooked and served everyone.
In the past, he had looked down on other zombies kept by humans.
But San Wu was different. She was special. He wanted to live with her.
Yet she also kept other zombies. San Yi was dull and mute, barely more than a corpse. He didn’t care much for him.
As for that youngest zombie, always following San Wu to gain her favor, she wasn’t a good thing either.
Then there was that flower and that radish, overly assertive about sharing food. The sunflower even wanted to sneakily hit him, but he slapped it against the wall.
Still, San Wu liked them.
Most notably was that cat with wings, acting all high and mighty but secretly manipulative. He pretended not to care about San Wu while subtly using his tail to lure her into removing fish bones for it. San Wu happily obliged, touching his claws and rubbing his belly.
San Wu even served the cat first! It got the most food!
The Lord Zombie was getting irritated.
From what he could see, in San Wu’s mind, the green tea cat came first, the other zombies second, the radish and sunflower third, and was he fourth?
He needed to do something. He had to make San Wu like him the most, always giving him the most food.
Just then, there was a knock at the door.
San Wu furrowed her brow.
No living person lived nearby. Could it be the three brothers from the fortress?
Indeed, the three brothers were coming, but it wasn’t them knocking.
They were just behind, arriving at San Wu’s door to see a luxurious vehicle parked outside. Only the upper echelons of the fortress could afford such a thing.
A man and a woman were knocking at the door, with the woman appearing to hold a higher status, coldly instructing the man to knock.
“Sister Lin, someone must be living here; there’s smoke,” Zhang Tao said, feeling a bit conflicted.
Lin Ran furrowed her brow. “No, this villa is the biggest one here. If someone’s living inside, we’ll make them move out.”
“While that’s true, they’ve already moved in, and if we cause too much commotion, we might attract attention from the Eighteenth Fortress…”
In the apocalypse, people were very territorial.
Given the end of the world, there were so few survivors, with land and houses everywhere.
The concept of ownership had become fuzzy. Moving into a new house was as simple as taking a few steps, but forcibly taking someone else’s place was seen as provocation— the highest form of provocation in the post-apocalyptic world.
It was like how the three bearded brothers were beaten by San Wu.
But Lin Ran believed she could handle whoever was inside. She didn’t care if others were unhappy; they could try defying her at their own risk.
Already irritated by issues with Ji Lingbai, she hoped the people inside would be sensible.
Zhang Tao noticed her disdainful expression, feeling increasingly annoyed. This woman couldn’t distinguish between important and trivial matters. He had already warned her about drawing attention from the Eighteenth Fortress.
But he couldn’t defeat her, so he had no choice. No wonder Brother Ji didn’t like seeing this woman; he would be annoyed too.
San Wu didn’t open the door; San Yi did.
“We need this house,” Lin Ran said coldly, looking at San Yi and then at San Wu standing behind him.
Lin Ran lifted her chin towards San Wu. “Let us in to talk.”
“Come in?” San Wu thought. She couldn’t let this woman see her garden full of vegetables.
“This house is quite popular,” San Wu chuckled. “Last time, someone else wanted it too. To be clear, I’m already living here. Moving out is not an option.”
Lin Ran sneered, “Do you think this zombie can protect you? Little girl, don’t oversimplify things. If you know what’s good for you, move out graciously and be grateful I’m sparing your life.”
Before San Wu could respond, Ji Lingbai recognized the familiar voice outside.
He heard the sound and his heart sank.
“How did that woman come out?”
In one leap, he landed on San Wu’s shoulder. He cast a cold glance and a flash of fire shot towards her hand reaching out, forcing her to retreat repeatedly, scorched.
He was savoring his fish, but this woman, who typically pestered him, went further by coming to this place.
Did she think he was dead?
The overseer, who was drinking soup, heard the commotion outside and immediately became alert.
They were here!
The opportunity to elevate his status had finally arrived.
He joyfully rushed towards the door.
Meanwhile, Zhang Tao, on the other side, was so scared when he saw the cat crouching on San Wu’s shoulder that his legs went weak.
Lin Ran didn’t know Brother Ji’s abilities, but he was on Ji Lingbai’s side, so of course he knew.
Ji Lingbai glanced at Zhang Tao, his eyes full of disdain, and flicked his tail on San Wu’s shoulder.
Zhang Tao dared not breathe loudly. Their Brother Ji!
He actually kept a woman outside?
