She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 51
“I’ll help you find your zombie and beast once we’re in our fortress,” the old woman said with a smile. “But not now.”
“I see you’re not very strong yourself. In our fortress, you’ll be equipped with firearms for self-defense….”
She offered a series of enticing conditions, but if she hadn’t used such methods, San Wu might have listened more calmly.
But clearly, they didn’t plan to give her a chance to refuse.
San Wu remained silent after that. Fighting wasn’t an option, and she wouldn’t waste her precious energy.
When they offered her food and drink, she checked it for anything suspicious before consuming it.
Her stomach still ached from the beating, and she needed to recover to escape.
And indeed, the Second Fortress lived up to its reputation. The food was quite good.
San Wu enjoyed the roasted sweet potatoes.
Xia Sheng even handed her a cup of juice, “Only for you, just you. This orange juice is really scarce now.”
San Wu drank it down quickly and held out her hand, “Another, please.”
Xia Sheng: “….”
San Wu wiped her mouth and spread her hands, “Is this how you treat talent?”
Xia Sheng: “… You were just cursing us as bandits.” No one could adapt faster than her!
Granny, without a word, handed her own meal to San Wu, “Eat!”
San Wu gave her a strange look but continued eating.
However, the more she ate, the more anxious she became.
Because it was already late at night, and they showed no signs of stopping to rest.
“I’ll give you anything you need—food, drink, supplies,” Granny said, covering San Wu with a blanket, “but if you’re thinking of escaping, forget it.”
“There are many talented people in the world,” San Wu wrapped herself in the blanket, staring at Granny. “And the Second Fortress is strong. Why force it?”
Granny grinned, revealing her white teeth, “You’re wrong, girl. It’s because we old folks are forcing it that the Second Fortress is strong and will only get stronger.”
San Wu leaned against the wall, closing her eyes without speaking.
“Master!”
Suddenly, Xiao Luobo’s voice echoed in her mind, startling San Wu. She barely controlled her expression and quickly responded, “Xiao Luobo! Where are you?”
“Don’t worry, Master, I’m right behind you!”
“Da Hei is leading everyone to catch up. Even if you’re taken to that fortress, don’t be afraid; we’ll come to rescue you.”
Xiao Luobo wasn’t good at fighting and would be turned into soup if she revealed herself, so she had been cautiously trailing them.
“Don’t let them find you, Xiao Luobo.”
San Wu felt a great relief. First, she knew they wouldn’t kill her, ensuring her safety, and knowing her loyal companions were on their way was comforting.
“Master, are you going to the Second Fortress?” Xiao Luobo overheard Granny and her conversation.
That annoying old lady seemed to be treating her master well.
“No,” San Wu said firmly. “I won’t accept her methods.”
“Besides, I don’t need to join a fortress and follow someone else’s rules.”
“Exactly,” Xiao Luobo agreed, “we’ll all protect you!”
Initially forcing herself to stay awake, San Wu decided to take a light nap, trusting Xiao Luobo to wake her if needed. When she opened her eyes again, it was daylight.
Outside was a scenery she had never seen before.
Scattered ability holders rarely changed territories long-distance, as it was too dangerous with their small numbers.
Xia Sheng and his group, however, were a convoy, able to travel recklessly and at full speed.
“Granny, look, we’re almost there!” Xia Sheng leaned out the window, excitement in his voice.
San Wu looked out, seeing that they were still far from their destination.
But the tall buildings of the Second Fortress were visible in the distance.
However, San Wu wasn’t focused on the Second Fortress. She was captivated by the large village they were passing.
The houses were well-preserved, neatly arranged, and the fields were full of thorn bushes.
The fields were vast, right next to the houses.
There were also many ponds.
This village was perfect!
It was like her dream place to settle down! Naturally grown thorn bushes, vast thorn forests around, plenty of mutant animals, and rich resources.
The numerous natural ponds could be used for fish farming, and the fields could grow plenty of vegetables.
If she could secure the perimeter, it would be a perfect safe haven.
“Stop staring,” Xia Sheng said cheerfully, “Our fortress is much better than this abandoned village.”
San Wu’s smile faded slightly.
They didn’t understand the value of this village!
Thinking of getting home soon, Xia Sheng stretched comfortably.
“Thankfully, this journey has been safe,” Xia Sheng said, looking at the mutant horses pulling the carriage with great interest. He turned to San Wu, “Those mutant horses were raised by me. Five years of care.”
“I know you have a knack for raising zombies. Perhaps we can share some tips,” Granny said with a smile.
San Wu shot her a glance, but before she could respond, she caught a flash of lightning from the corner of her eye.
“Something’s wrong!” Xia Sheng’s face changed drastically, and he turned just in time to see a burst of lightning. The mutant horses he had raised were blasted away, screaming in pain as they tumbled into the distance.
The carriage overturned, and Granny was the first to react, grabbing San Wu and Xia Sheng and jumping out of the window.
Dust filled the air, and San Wu covered her mouth, coughing violently, “Xiao Luobo!”
Xiao Luobo immediately appeared at her side, burrowing out of the ground and jumping into her arms.
