She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 52
Though she didn’t fully understand what was happening, this was the perfect chance to escape.
San Wu seized the chaos to break free from Granny and run.
But she had barely taken a few steps when a pair of hands grabbed the back of her collar, and soft feathers brushed against her face.
The next moment, San Wu was lifted off the ground. Someone was carrying her into the sky.
Instinctively, she clung to the person in front of her, looking up to see a pair of silver eyes and the increasingly close blue sky behind him.
She finally understood why these eyes felt so familiar.
Those eyes, the wings behind him—they were unmistakably familiar.
“Xiao Bai?” San Wu tentatively called out.
Ji Lingbai glanced down at her, unharmed.
His arm was pressing against her noticeably round belly, clearly indicating she had eaten her fill.
“Ji Lingbai, are you crazy?” Xia Sheng shouted from below, “Why are you attacking my horses?”
Ji Lingbai looked down at him, “An eye for an eye, don’t you understand?”
“Why is Captain Ji taking our person?” Granny held Xia Sheng back, “We’re almost at the Second Fortress.”
“Your person?” Ji Lingbai chuckled, his gaze locking onto Xia Sheng.
Granny’s face tightened, and she shouted, “Young master, step back.”
But it was too late.
Flames erupted from the ground beneath Xia Sheng, and he cursed, the earth rising to lift him away from the encircling fire.
“Young Master! Don’t go up!”
Xia Sheng looked up sharply, only to see countless lightning bolts descending with even greater ferocity than before. He raised a large earthen wall in front of him.
But the lightning was faster, piercing through the not-yet-complete wall and striking Xia Sheng.
Ji Lingbai looked coldly at the immobilized, injured Xia Sheng, “Xia Sheng, to be honest, your high level isn’t even as strong as your brother’s middle level.”
Granny’s eyes turned red, wind blades swirling around her as she launched them at Ji Lingbai with immense force and speed. Ji Lingbai dodged hastily, scaring San Wu into clinging tightly to his waist.
“Captain Ji, why make things difficult for my young master?!” Granny trembled with anger, “If you have a grudge, take it up with me.”
“I hit him because I know you care about him. Does it hurt?” Ji Lingbai’s eyes were icy. “If you know this is wrong, why did you try to take someone else’s person?”
San Wu silently stared at him.
No matter how she looked at him, he really seemed like Xiao Bai.
She knew those wings; she had petted them countless times.
So this cat was actually a person?
Was turning into a cat a part of his ability?
Even though the battle was fierce, she suddenly remembered petting the cat while wearing pajamas until she fell asleep at noon.
Her face turned green.
Granny noticed this and said with a pleased expression, “It looks like this girl doesn’t know you well, Captain Ji.”
Lying on the ground after being struck by lightning, Xia Sheng stubbornly raised his head, “They only had a few meals together.”
Ji Lingbai looked at San Wu, “You tell them.”
He released one arm from holding San Wu, and at this height, she could imagine being dropped and turned into a pulp.
Now knowing it was Xiao Bai, San Wu felt more confident.
There was no choice; using Ji Lingbai to escape first was her best bet.
She clung tightly to Ji Lingbai’s waist, looking down at Granny, “We are very close, close enough that I used to help him bathe.”
Ji Lingbai: “….” Asking her to explain was the most foolish decision he had ever made.
Granny’s face turned green, “So, she’s the woman you keep?” She was so agitated that her words came out garbled.
She shot Xia Sheng a fierce glare. Why didn’t he mention this important detail?
If she had known the girl was Ji Lingbai’s woman, she would never have tried to take her.
“What do you mean ‘he keeps me’?” San Wu felt this was an attack on her dignity as the head of her household. “I’ve always been the one keeping him, feeding him my food and meat.”
Everyone below looked at Ji Lingbai with a new understanding.
The captain of the First Fortress was actually living off a woman.
Ji Lingbai’s face darkened even more.
“Granny Hua, even if Xia Zhiqing were standing in front of me, I would still say the same thing. Don’t touch, and you won’t get her.”
Ji Lingbai turned and flew away with San Wu, “Don’t let this happen again, or I won’t let it slide.”
Granny Hua looked at San Wu with regret in her eyes.
San Wu saw that the gates of the Second Fortress were open, and people were pouring out, clearly alerted by the commotion.
Fighting at the enemy’s doorstep was not a winning strategy.
She excitedly patted Ji Lingbai, “Quick, Xiao Bai, let’s go!”
Ji Lingbai’s head throbbed from her patting.
He took one last look at Granny Hua and her group, then flew rapidly in another direction.
But the next moment, explosions rang out from beneath Granny Hua’s beast carriages, blowing the precious vehicles to pieces.
Behind them, Xia Sheng’s enraged voice echoed, “Ji Lingbai, you lunatic!”
San Wu was carried away by Ji Lingbai, leaving the people from the Second Fortress unable to catch up. As night fell, Granny Hua, exhausted, ordered everyone to pack up and return to the fortress.
“Young Master, you need to rest and heal,” Granny Hua sighed, “It has been a chaotic day. Such a pity about that girl’s ability.”
“But how many zombies can she control?”
Lying on the bed, Xia Sheng replied wearily, “Quite a few.”
But they forgot that among those zombies, one was a zombie leader.
And they didn’t expect that shortly after San Wu left, another group arrived.
Xiao Luobo had been carried away by San Wu, leaving no markers for the others. So Xiao Luobo’s tunnel ended at the Second Fortress’s gate.
Kui Kui, seeing the chaotic battlefield, turned red with anger.
