She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 56
It was better to settle here. At least in the short term, she could borrow some power. By the time Xia Sheng and the others realized it, she would have established her territory. It would be easier to defend than to attack, and the zombies could protect the village.
Most importantly, she didn’t know if Wang Hai was dead or not.
Wang Hao’s life wasn’t in her hands, and she couldn’t kill all the ability holders in the Eighteenth Fortress back then. If Wang Hai found out, her situation would be very dangerous.
Moreover, the previous incident with Granny Hua and Xia Sheng made her realize the principle of “an innocent man gets into trouble because of his wealth”. Xia Sheng and his group were relatively decent; at least they didn’t try to kill her immediately after the negotiations broke down.
What if she encountered someone in the future who would rather destroy her at the slightest disagreement?
There were many conflicts between fortresses.
People’s hearts were even harder to predict.
The female zombie in the red dress followed closely behind San Wu after eating an egg, and San Wu felt like she was about to have her neck bitten off at any moment.
“Stay a bit further from me.” San Wu took three steps back warily.
An unfamiliar, hungry zombie made her feel extremely unsafe.
After being rejected by San Wu, the female zombie turned around and started banging her head against the wall.
This wasn’t the sturdy gate of a fortress. The wall shattered in one blow, scaring San Wu into immediately stopping her. “You can follow if it makes you happy.”
San Ling shook his head from the side.
How could she bang her head against the wall?
The corpse fluid in her brain would shake, making her completely dumb.
San Wu went outside, where the sounds of zombies roaring occasionally reached her ears. It was evident that Xiao San and the others had started their work.
Tu Dou stretched hod roots into the soil.
However, the soil here hadn’t been purified. He trembled every time he rooted, clearly uncomfortable.
Other plants were fine, but the rose, which had a mouth, shuddered all over whenever she rooted a bit and made rippling sounds.
“Ah~.”
“Oh~.”
San Wu: “…”
She really wanted to chop down that useless flower.
It wasn’t until sunrise that Xiao San and her underlings returned, covered in wounds. They brought back a long string of zombies, about a hundred or so.
“Little brothers! There are more of them now!” Xiao san, not good at counting, clenched her fist excitedly. “Hungry! Need food!”
Of course, there were more than a hundred zombies in the entire village. The rest were either killed by Xiao San or had fled, leaving only those unwilling to move who recognized Xiao San as their leader. Wherever the leader went, they followed.
San Wu looked at the group of foolish zombies behind her, some drooling with their mouths open. Compared to high-level zombies, low-level zombies were just downright dumb.
“Xiao San, take your little brothers to catch more mutant beasts. Use the beast carriage to transport them and exchange them for food.”
From the village, San Wu could see a shadow of the Second Fortress, but the distance was still a bit far. Using the beast carriage would be more convenient.
Suddenly, San Wu thought of something strange.
She turned to ask San Ling, “Where did you get the beast carriage?”
The Zombie Leader’s scalp tightened. He had casually taken it, but he didn’t know whose it was.
San Wu had previously said not to take things from others, but wasn’t it an emergency back then?
Would he go without food if he told the truth?
The Zombie Leader thought for a moment and said expressionlessly, “A kind person gave it to us.”
…
“Fortress Master Li, we really had no other choice!”
“The beast carriage prepared outside was taken by some despicable scum!”
“As a result, several of our brothers died on the way here.”
The group that had fled overnight from the Eighteenth Fortress was dejected.
Sitting in front of them was the master of the Third Fortress, Li Yushan.
Wang Hai sat opposite Li Yushan, looking as if he had aged ten years.
Wang Hai wiped his dry face. “Fortress Master Li, thanks to your early reception, otherwise, we would still be on the run.”
Li Yushan, looking scholarly and in his early forties, had eyes that narrowed into a line when he smiled, resembling a cunning fox.
“Brother Wang, you’re too polite. We’ve known each other for years. When you sent your mutant eagle with a message saying that people from the first and second fortresses were coming, I found it strange. At first, I thought the first and second fortresses might be joining forces. If that were the case, I would definitely side with you.”
Li Yushan poured himself a cup of hot tea.
“But I didn’t expect the First Fortress to be so fast.” Li Yushan patted Wang Hai on the shoulder. “When I heard about this, I immediately came to support you, but I was still a step too late.”
“Brother Wang, you can stay at my Third Fortress. Rest assured, this world is not yet theirs to rule,” Li Yushan said with a smile, standing up. “You’ve had a long day, rest now.”
As soon as he stepped out of the makeshift tent, the smile faded from his face.
He glanced back, shoved his hands into his pockets, and gave a signal to the guards on either side.
Wang Hai, that worthless man, couldn’t hold out any longer.
Li Yushan smirked. Hopefully, Wang Hai had brought enough weapons, or this trip would be for nothing.
…
Ji Lingbai saw that the new order in the fortress was almost established, so he went into Wang Hai’s study and took out some paper and a pen.
From the Second Fortress incident, Ji Lingbai fully understood San Wu’s stance.
She probably wanted to live independently with her zombies.
If he had that kind of ability, he would also want to establish his own territory.
