She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 60
After her anger subsided, San Wu went to settle Ah Si and was about to chat when a red figure stumbled in from outside.
San Wu stood up abruptly after just one glance.
Zang Fei, with a half-healed shoulder wound, had an arm bitten off, half her face torn away, and nearly lost her crystal core, collapsed in front of her.
“Zang Fei!” San Wu immediately carried her into the courtyard.
The stench of zombie blood was overpowering, and San Wu quickly moved her inside.
With the wall still incomplete, San Wu couldn’t release the chickens and ducks, making the space very crowded.
She had no choice but to place Zang Fei on a bed inside.
Zang Fei convulsed, and San Wu grabbed a bag of twenty crystal cores from a drawer, shoving them into Zang Fei’s mouth.
These were from low-level zombies San Ling had encountered while hunting mutant beasts.
Kui Kui cautiously peeked in from the doorway. “Master, what happened to her?”
“She’s injured.”
Kui Kui, with a fiery temper, asked, “Who hurt her?”
“I don’t know, but we’ll find out when she wakes up.”
After feeding the crystal cores into Zang Fei’s mouth, she calmed down significantly, her spasms ceasing.
“Kui Kui, watch over her.” Crystal cores might not be enough for a quick recovery. San Wu needed to make a nourishing soup.
“Boss, what’s wrong with your zombie?” Jiang Tian and Chen Yibi had adapted well to life here, and with their lives in San Wu’s hands, they couldn’t cause trouble even if they wanted to.
Chen Yibi, usually quiet, frowned. “The wounds look like zombie bites.”
Jiang Tian pondered, “Could it be a zombie raised by people from the Second Fortress?”
San Wu’s expression darkened. The Second Fortress had indeed sent people to monitor them recently.
Initially, she thought it was just normal vigilance and ignored them when they came to look.
But if they really attacked Zang Fei…
San Wu walked out, and San Ling was carrying a bundle of newly acquired cloth and silk threads.
He must have smelled Zang Fei’s blood and looked very agitated.
“If anyone from the Second Fortress comes to spy again, bring them here. I have questions.” San Wu’s face was grim.
San Ling immediately put down his things and rushed out.
San Wu set the cloth aside. The surviving silkworms had mutated, producing silk that was different, but the resulting fabric was still softer than before, suitable for clothing.
She selected some colored fabric to make dresses for Zang Fei and Xiao San.
For herself and San Ling, practical clothing was more suitable.
She grabbed a grown rooster, deciding to cook it for her zombies. One or two roosters for breeding were enough; the rest would be eaten.
She also chose three large prawns. She had collected plenty of garlic and ginger, and now with various seasonings, she could make dishes that were both delicious and healing.
In the Second Fortress, Granny Hua spoke respectfully to the man in the chief seat, “Fortress Master, the Eighteenth Fortress has been taken over by the First Fortress. Over the years, we’ve all wanted to expand our territory. Who would’ve thought that the First Fortress would be the first to take the plunge.”
Granny Hua’s face wrinkled with a frown. “Should we explore new territories as well?”
Across from her, the man had hands that drew the eye, fingers resting on a teacup, swirling the tea to reflect a face similar to Xia Sheng’s but more refined and handsome.
Unlike Ji Lingbai’s overwhelming presence, his appearance was more approachable, putting less pressure on people.
This was Xia Zhiqing, the leader of the Second Fortress, Xia Sheng’s brother, and the true heart of the Second Fortress.
Before the apocalypse, this face would have been the ideal ‘first love’ face that girls loved.
“I have plans for expanding our territory, Granny. No need to worry.” Xia Zhiqing’s voice matched his gentle demeanor. “But I heard Ji Lingbai caused a stir while I was away?”
Granny Hua recounted the incident between San Wu and Ji Lingbai.
“It’s my fault for being too hasty and not understanding San Wu and Ji Lingbai’s relationship,” Granny Hua lamented.
Xia Zhiqing pondered for a moment. “Granny, you acted for the fortress’s benefit. I understand. Increasing our combat strength is crucial for protecting more people and reducing our death rate.”
“Don’t worry, we won’t make enemies with Ji Lingbai. He came back to settle the score, which means the matter is closed.”
“Is it true that San Wu can control a large number of zombies?” Xia Zhiqing asked. “If it is, we should talk to her. Ambitious people won’t be content to stay in our fortress, but if we can’t recruit her, we can at least cooperate.”
Xia Zhiqing looked out the window at a group of children laughing and playing with some adults in the fortress, their faces healthy and full of life, clearly well-protected within the fortress.
He sighed, “We need more high-level combat power to protect more people in the future.”
“By the way, I see San Wu is preparing to enclose that large village near us. I sent a few agile kids to keep an eye on it every day,” Granny Hua said.
Xia Zhiqing nodded, “That’s necessary.”
San Wu was establishing territory and had a close relationship with Ji Lingbai. As the leader of the Second Fortress, he couldn’t be completely without caution.
“It’s about time for those kids to return. When they do, you should question them,” Granny Hua suggested.
…
At this moment, the two boys sent by the Second Fortress were silently crying, tied up tightly and thrown in a corner of a room.
“I was wrong, I shouldn’t have volunteered to spy,” one boy sobbed.
“Me too, this is too much. The zombies here are unreasonable,” the other boy wept.
Their crying irritated the zombie guarding them, already hungry and annoyed.
With a growl, the zombie glared at them and licked his lips while staring at their throats.
Low-level zombies had poor self-control. They listened mainly because San Wu fed them well and San Ling maintained strict discipline.
