She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 62
Xiao San had successfully upgraded to a zombie leader in the past few battles, pairing well with San Ying.
With the resilient San Yi watching over them, the three easily overwhelmed an ordinary leader zombie.
With the leader zombie dead, the lower-level zombies fell into disarray.
San Ling led the underlings to handle the unruly or less intelligent zombies.
“Leave some, bring them back to our fortress,” San Wu called out.
The wall was almost finished, and her village needed more combat power.
The village was large enough to house the zombies.
Once the fields were cleared, they’d need caretakers. San Wu couldn’t do it all herself.
Xiao San extracted the purple crystal core and bounced over to San Wu, offering it. “Eat!”
San Wu didn’t hesitate. She wanted to quickly reach the mid-level to see how her ability would develop.
“Are you San Wu?” She heard Xia Zhiqing’s voice and turned to face a man with a friendly, likable face.
“I am Xia Zhiqing, the leader of the Second Fortress.”
San Wu glanced at Granny Hua behind him. “What do you want?”
San Ying and Xiao San stood in front of her, warily eyeing the man.
They both looked highly vigilant.
“I want to discuss cooperation,” Xia Zhiqing said with a gentle smile.
“Cooperation? What could I possibly offer to make the Fortress Master come here personally?” San Wu said skeptically, with a half-smile.
“I’ve never seen anyone able to raise so many zombies at once,” Xia Zhiqing maintained a safe distance. “Maybe you’d be willing to sell me the method?”
“There is no method,” San Wu interrupted. “I rely on my personal charm.”
Xia Zhiqing chuckled, “Alright, I figured you wouldn’t agree.” He obviously didn’t believe in charm.
“How about lending us your trained zombies for hunting trips? In return, we would offer generous rewards,” Xia Zhiqing proposed seriously. “You could get household items, food, even some exclusive items not available for public exchange.”
“And the protection of the Second Fortress.”
Xia Zhiqing glanced at the village silhouette, “I know your zombies are powerful, but working with a large fortress is safer, right?”
“Our Second Fortress is close to your village, and we can provide timely assistance if needed.”
“During cooperation, you wouldn’t even need to be present. Just let your zombies join our teams.”
His offer was quite attractive.
Having the Second Fortress as a backup would indeed be beneficial.
But San Wu firmly said, “Sorry, I refuse.”
“Can you tell me why?” Xia Zhiqing’s smile faded slightly.
“The reason is, I don’t lend out my zombies, and you can’t guarantee your teams won’t harm them, nor can I guarantee they won’t harm your teams.”
“Of course, if my zombies find something good, we’ll still trade with the Second Fortress. You won’t turn against me just because we can’t cooperate, right?”
“Trading good items normally is fine. I also hope we can be friends even if we can’t cooperate,” Xia Zhiqing said, not being unreasonable.
“That’s good,” San Wu weighed the large bag of crystal cores in her hand. “Da Hei, let’s go home.”
Da Hei immediately carried her away, with San Ling giving Xia Zhiqing a glare before following.
“Fortress Master,” Granny Hua sighed, “I think it might be easier to find a new territory.”
“She rejected us, perhaps because of Ji Lingbai,” Xia Zhiqing mused.
“That’s a possibility,” Granny Hua agreed, then shifted the conversation. “But, Fortress Master, did you notice her ability level?”
Xia Zhiqing had evolved to possess eyes that could see the energy surrounding ability holders, distinguishing low, mid, and high levels.
“She’s a low-level ability holder. For her to control so many zombies, there are only two possibilities: either her ability is rare and inherently strong, or it has nothing to do with her ability and she has a special method.”
Unfortunately, if it was the first, they could only envy. If it was the second, she wasn’t willing to share.
“Let’s return to the fortress,” Xia Zhiqing said, turning to leave.
San Wu waited until she was sure Xia Zhiqing wasn’t following before she relaxed.
“Boss, the wall is completely done,” Jiang Tian eagerly reported, his eyes lighting up at the sight of the large bag of crystal cores in San Wu’s hands.
San Wu was satisfied with the tall wall that completely shielded the view from outside, providing her with a sense of security.
“Good job. I can start planting the thorn bushes now.”
Once they grew, the wall would harden and become more solid.
“San Ling, start organizing patrols outside the wall. Make sure the underlings carry their whistles and blow them if there’s any trouble.”
She then turned to Jiang Tian, “Get started on the watchtowers we talked about.”
Jiang Tian nodded repeatedly.
San Wu handed him and Chen Yibi each a handful of crystal cores.
“Well done,” she smiled.
Crystal cores could be given as a reward, but she couldn’t completely cure them yet.
Jiang Tian accepted the crystal cores, rubbing his now chubbier face. He felt like a relaxed foreman before the apocalypse, even though he still had the zombie virus in him. The food here was just too good.
The underlings, worn out from the fight, were resting, some lying on the ground like emotionless ‘corpses’.
With the wall done, San Wu released the chickens and ducks into the yard.
She built a large enclosure with thorn bushes and fenced it off. She now had twelve hens, five roosters, eight female ducks, and three male ducks.
She needed to make a coop for the chickens and another for the ducks.
The manure from the chickens and ducks would be used to fertilize the plants.
San Wu then looked at the pond she had purified earlier.
Kui Kui came out carrying a large tub of fish and shrimp, followed by a group of zombies also carrying fish and shrimp.
