She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 72
Seeing the chaos among the fighting zombies, the great zombie leader suddenly crushed a strong zombie’s head.
The blood and gore splattered, bringing the frenzied zombies to their senses.
They turned from tigers into quails.
Only then was the great zombie leader satisfied. His gaze passed over the restless zombies and fell on San Yi, nodding approvingly.
“I like quiet ones like you. Lead the charge and clear the way.”
San Yi: “…”
Good-natured zombies always attracted the attention of evil forces.
But San Yi maintained his simple expression.
San Yi had been missing for almost a whole day, and San Wu was frantic.
She nearly turned the mountain upside down with her group of zombies.
“San Wu, maybe he was dragged away by a mutant beast,” someone suggested, “Stop searching, get some rest.”
“Impossible,” San Wu said firmly, “I’ve found the bodies of my other zombies. San Yi is much stronger; he couldn’t have died in the beast tide.”
Something must have happened.
But where could San Yi have gone?
“You have so many zombies, losing one doesn’t matter. As long as you’re safe,” people persuaded, “Rest, you haven’t slept all night.”
San Wu pressed her lips together and continued searching with her zombies.
Ji Lingbai, seeing how anxious San Wu was, understood the reason. San Yi meant something different to her.
It was her first real zombie. Although he couldn’t speak, wasn’t as affectionate as Xiao San, as eloquent as San Ling, nor did he seek attention like Kui Kui or Tu Dou, he was the most diligent, often handling tasks without needing San Wu’s instructions.
San Wu felt bad for his silence and honesty, always sneaking him an extra scoop of food.
After nearly two more hours of searching, San Wu, exhausted, was carried back by the leopard.
Ji Lingbai couldn’t help but bring her a pot of water, “Stop searching. The zombie tide might come soon. San Yi is smart. If he is alive, he’ll come back on his own.”
“Your zombies only listen to you. You must stay alert, or more will die.”
San Wu looked at him weakly, took the pot, and after a moment of silence, said, “I know, thank you.”
“Light the fire and cook something.”
Xia Zhijing, after counting the total number of people, noticed they were fewer after the beast tide. Though feeling down, he was used to this heaviness.
San Wu, having brought a pot and meat, made a pot of meat soup, regretting she didn’t bring any vegetables.
“Hey, girl?”
The tent door opened, and Granny Hua walked in with a handful of something, “Making meat soup?”
“Yes,” San Wu smiled at her, “How’s Grandpa Lin?”
“Us old folks don’t have much to say. Grandpa Lin lost a hand, but at least he’s alive. He went back in the beast carriage,” taking the bodies of comrades back as well.
“Here, this is for you.” Granny Hua handed San Wu a handful of Sichuan pepper.
San Wu’s eyes widened, “What is this?”
“It’s Sichuan pepper we successfully cultivated in water, but the special nutrient solution is hard to mix, so there’s not much.”
Not much, this was Granny Hua’s share.
Giving San Wu this Sichuan pepper showed her intention to make friends. San Wu didn’t act coy and accepted it with thanks.
But she planned to plant it instead of eating it.
Granny Hua comforted her, implying there would be other zombies in the future.
San Wu: “…”. Why did it sound like comforting a girl after a breakup?
“Alright, I’m off. Eat well. There’s a tough battle ahead,” she wiped her face, “I don’t know if this old lady can make it.”
She was determined to be at the forefront.
“Granny Hua,” San Wu called out to her before she left, sincerely saying, “You don’t have to forcefully bring people back in the future.”
Granny Hua looked at her in surprise.
Facing San Wu’s smiling face.
“Even without that, the Second Fortress is good enough to attract people.”
After years of change, the fortress had become what they initially wanted.
Granny Hua’s lips moved but she didn’t say anything, just smiled back and left.
If she survived later, she would consider San Wu’s words.
Granny Hua didn’t say anything, as saying it felt like acknowledging her imminent death. Being superstitious due to her age, she refrained from speaking further.
San Wu carefully put the Sichuan pepper in her pocket. She had only drunk half of the meat soup when she felt another tremor.
This tremor was much closer.
San Wu immediately dashed out of the tent, with the black leopard and San Ling quickly rushing to her side. The leopard roared towards the southeast.
The tremor stopped after half a minute.
San Wu’s eyes widened in shock.
It was her first time witnessing a zombie tide. The zombies flowed like a flood, even uprooting the dense thorns with the zombie leaders at the forefront.
The intense stench of decay made San Wu involuntarily take a step back.
These zombies didn’t care about their injuries or the smell of their rotting flesh. They charged forward like mad, resembling a tidal wave ready to engulf everything in its path.
Before the fight even began, San Wu felt an overwhelming sense of suffocation. She bent over, her head feeling like it was being pierced by needles.
“Don’t look that way.”
A hand gently pressed against her back, and in the next moment, she saw the enormous lightning cage she had seen before, descending from the sky and splitting the massive zombie tide.
“Roar!” The great zombie leader in the center blocked the lightning strike and glared menacingly at Ji Lingbai.
San Wu’s headache instantly vanished.
