She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 74
San Wu looked at him in confusion, “Why do I need Xia Zhiqing’s approval for my own things? He doesn’t even know what I’m capable of.”
“Did you get hit on the head by that big zombie? I knew you were unreliable; otherwise, you wouldn’t have fallen in front of me like a dead cat!”
Ji Lingbai took a deep breath, feeling like the energy he had been suppressing almost burst out due to anger.
“You said earlier that you were cooperating with the Second Fortress.” Ji Lingbai had a faint suspicion in his mind.
“A cooperation to fight zombies together, but now that the zombies are gone, the cooperation is over,” San Wu shrugged.
Ji Lingbai seemed to realize what important detail he had missed.
So Xia Zhiqing hadn’t really secured San Wu at all.
“I sent you a letter through a mutant dog earlier. Did you receive it?”
“What mutant dog?” San Wu’s attention was momentarily diverted.
But she quickly refocused, “No.”
“What did you write in the letter?” San Wu asked warily, looking at him.
Ji Lingbai sighed, rubbing his forehead, realizing that something had indeed gone wrong along the way.
“It’s not convenient to talk about it here; we’ll discuss it when we get back,” Ji Lingbai’s mood improved instantly.
San Wu glanced around at the people who kept throwing curious looks their way and decided to resist her own curiosity for now, storing away the crystal core she had been holding.
Ji Lingbai would probably be willing to trade with her.
San Wu smiled as she patted San Yi’s head. Although the blood of evolved humans and mutant beasts was beneficial to zombies, zombies’ crystal cores were also consumable. However, at the same level, the effect wasn’t as good as blood.
But this was the crystal core of a big zombie, extremely rare.
She was pondering how to distribute this crystal. San Yi was currently weaker compared to the other zombie leaders, and since he had obtained this crystal himself, he should definitely get at least the majority of it to help him advance to the level of a king zombie.
As for the remainder, she would see if San Yi was willing to share some with San Ling.
As for herself, she had collected plenty of crystal cores this time, including some from high-level zombies, enough for her as a low-level evolved human to absorb.
Moreover… San Wu glanced at the scattered corpses on the ground, some belonging to others, and some to her zombie underlings.
She deeply felt the importance of strength—not just her own, but also her zombies’ strength.
Seeing that Ji Lingbai had handed over the big zombie’s crystal core to San Wu, the onlookers were even more convinced of their relationship.
It took a long time to collect all the crystal cores, and except for the bodies of San Wu’s zombies, none were left untouched.
San Wu ended up with a lot, roughly three large bags.
San Ling loaded everything onto the beast cart, and along with San Wu and San Yi, the three of them sat in the cart pulled by Da Hei.
As soon as they got in, San Wu turned to San Yi and said, “This crystal core is yours. Eat it and level up, but could you spare some for San Ling? After all, you two led the team out together this time.”
San Yi stared at the crystal core for a moment, then shook his head vigorously, pushing it back to San Wu, indicating that she should eat it.
“I can’t absorb this; it might cause my body to explode,” San Wu said honestly. “If I could eat it, I wouldn’t be polite with you guys.”
If her ability improved, the energy in the food she provided every day might increase, which would benefit San Yi and the others.
San Yi agreed with San Wu and was even willing to share it with the underlings.
“The underlings can’t absorb it; just you two eat it,” San Wu said, breaking the crystal into one large piece and one small piece, giving the larger one to San Yi.
Both zombies consumed the crystal on the way, and San Yi fell asleep immediately, his once cold skin turning scorching hot.
San Ling, however, seemed unchanged on the surface.
San Wu leaned back in the cart, feeling drowsy. She had been on edge over San Yi’s disappearance and had fought a battle against the zombie horde afterward, leaving her utterly exhausted.
She fell asleep in the cart, while the people from the other fortresses couldn’t sleep.
They were counting the number of casualties and comparing the losses of other fortresses.
The First Fortress, led by Ji Lingbai, was indeed formidable, with only twenty people severely injured, thirty lightly injured, and no deaths.
The Third Fortress suffered the most casualties, having had the misfortune of encountering a particularly strong segment of the zombie horde, losing nearly half of their people.
“Sigh, even though we knew not everyone would make it back, it’s still hard to take,” said the leader of the Fifth Fortress, feeling downcast.
“That’s not entirely true,” said a young man next to him. “We may have lost people, but we gained one-third more manpower on the way back.”
The leader was puzzled, “What are you talking about?”
“Look, over there,” the young man nodded toward San Wu’s direction.
Leader: “…Let’s not compare ourselves to her.”
After all, San Yi hadn’t left behind all the fake underlings he had brought. The big zombie was dead, and so were the other leaders, but their leader wasn’t.
So, over forty foolish zombies followed San Yi.
With their limited brain capacity, they couldn’t think through complex issues. As long as the boss promised food and shelter, they were all in.
Everyone else thought San Wu had incredible luck.
The return journey took about two days, with frequent stops due to the injuries many had sustained, before they finally reached the Second Fortress.
San Wu initially planned to go straight back, but Granny Hua offered to let her choose something from the Second Fortress as a token of gratitude.
In fact, there was no need to give her a gift since she was different from the others—she was protecting her own village.
But since they offered, San Wu didn’t refuse.
Everyone entered the Second Fortress to rest and recuperate.
San Yi had woken up halfway, successfully breaking through to become a king zombie, though he still had trouble speaking clearly, and San Ling was teaching him.
