She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 82
The zombies turned out to be even more obedient than San Wu had expected, so the training class finished quickly.
In truth, they were only teaching one skill—how to play dead. Even these soldier-level zombies, no matter how slow, should have developed some muscle memory after a full day of practice.
Their parents… no, their keepers, were already waiting anxiously outside.
When Ji Lingbai arrived to discuss some details, he saw a crowd of people from the Second Fortress gathered around San Wu’s village.
“Captain Ji!” The crowd spotted him too. “What brings you here at this time? Are you looking for our fortress’ leader?”
“No, I’m here to see San Wu.”
A simple-minded young man scratched his head and said, “Well, you’ll have to wait. You can’t get in right now.”
Ji Lingbai gave him an exasperated look. “You guys wait your turn. I’m not like you.”
Ignoring the clueless remark, Ji Lingbai approached the front door. The zombie guards outside stared at him.
Ji Lingbai remained calm and composed. “San Wu asked me to come.”
The zombies exchanged glances. One ran inside to fetch San Ling, who quickly came out, grinning, to open the door for Ji Lingbai.
San Wu had told them.
This was their future ‘cash cow’, and all the good things delivered this morning had come from him.
“Well, well, Ji Lingbai!” San Wu called as she walked over from the partitioned pathway, with a string of sluggish zombies trailing behind her.
“Wait a moment; I’ll see them off and then discuss business with you.”
San Wu led the zombies out the door, and the moment their keepers, who had been waiting outside, saw them, they rushed forward excitedly.
“How was it?”
“What’s it like there?”
They pulled their own zombies over and quietly asked. This village had been made so secretive that their curiosity was killing them.
But as soon as they pulled their zombies over, they realized… huh? Why were they shaking?
“San Wu, did your zombies beat them up?” Granny Hua led her two zombies over and asked curiously, “Look at my two poor things, their legs are shaking and their eyes are glazed.”
“No way,” San Wu smiled brightly, patting her chest. “Zombies naturally have that blank stare. Besides, I raise mine with nothing but love and gentleness, so how could I be that rough?”
Granny Hua was skeptical and turned to ask her two zombies, “You didn’t get beaten up by the other zombies in there, did you?”
They obediently shook their heads, each clinging to one of Granny Hua’s shoulders like wronged little wives.
Granny Hua: “…!!??” Heavens!
These two zombie grandpas were acting… clingy?
It wasn’t just these two; all the other zombies were showing unprecedented enthusiasm toward their owners.
Everyone felt a bit overwhelmed by the sudden affection.
San Wu nodded with satisfaction. “This is how it should be between an owner and their zombie. Don’t worry, our aftercare services are excellent. If within a month, your zombies forget how to play dead or start acting disobedient, you can bring them back for a refresher course. Returning students get a 10% discount—it’s a great deal.”
Come back again?
The zombie students clung tightly to their owners’ arms.
No!
Goodbye forever to that zombie hell! They swore they would never return!
Unfortunately, they couldn’t speak, nor did they dare to turn around and spit in San Wu’s face, especially with Sam Ling glaring at them from the side.
Granny Hua and the others, still dazed and confused, led their zombies back home, not yet fully grasping the changes in their behavior.
“Is San Wu really that good?” Granny Hua mumbled to herself.
What they all overlooked was the fact that wherever there was a zombie leader, the underlings tend to behave.
It was like the difference between an only child and a whole classroom of kids.
Each of them had only one zombie, so they were somewhat spoiled.
Especially those who had invested a lot of resources and energy—they couldn’t bear to switch them so easily.
The truth was, these zombies had been pampered. But in San Wu’s fortress, where there were so many zombies, they felt insecure and lacked confidence. Plus, a zombie leader naturally exerts a suppressive effect on ordinary zombies.
And let’s not forget the performances put on by Xiao San and Sang Fei.
Those shows made the owners think the village was nothing short of a zombie hell.
It wasn’t until they returned to the Second Fortress and heard the cries of amazement around them that the zombie owners began to wake up.
“What’s going on? Why are all these zombies clinging to you?”
The residents of the Second Fortress gathered around.
“Wait, did San Wu beat them up?”
“But I don’t see any injuries.”
Finally, the owners snapped out of their daze. After spending so many resources for such great results, how could they not show off a little?
“You guys kept saying it wasn’t worth it for us to spend all those resources. Now you see, it was just short-sightedness on your part, huh?”
Someone smugly patted their zombie on the head. In the past, that would have made the zombie furious, but now it obediently allowed the pats, leaving those who struggled to control their zombies staring in envy.
“Ugh, I don’t even know what happened, but ever since they came back from that training class, they’ve been especially clingy,” someone said, pretending to be annoyed. “I can’t even pry them off—it’s so annoying.”
The crowd rolled their eyes. “Oh, please! You all act like you’re annoyed, but can’t you at least hide those smug faces of yours?”
Despite their complaints, everyone secretly made up their minds to send their own zombies for training too.
With this level of affection, what’s a little extra spending?
