She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 89
“San Wu, you have your own squad of hundreds of trained zombies behind you, me, and the First Fortress,” Ji Lingbai called her name. “Everyone knows I value you and treat you particularly well. Why do you think Wang Hai sends scouts carefully rather than coming directly?”
“Because in broad daylight, no one dares to act against you in front of me. Choosing to cooperate with me means you’re gaining more than just a few supplies. You could be bolder; don’t be afraid.”
His gaze shifted but still landed on San Wu’s clothing. He moved his fingers but didn’t lift them, merely saying, “Don’t hide in the woods at night anymore; the wind is coming in through your open collar. Don’t you feel cold standing there?”
San Wu lowered her head and glanced at her collar.
“How did my buttons come undone?” She didn’t care, buttoning it up casually. In a good mood, she patted Ji Lingbai’s shoulder. “You’re right, my friend, but I have my own way of doing things. Don’t worry; I’m not afraid of them. It’s always good to be cautious.”
San Wu’s upbringing was different from Ji Lingbai’s, leading to different styles of action.
But that didn’t affect their cooperation.
As soon as they returned, San Wu heard a commotion inside.
Her expression changed, and she rushed in.
Upon entering, she saw her little brothers anxiously circling around the plants.
Kui Kui was pulling the rose, while Xiao Luobo and Tu Dou were blocking Denglong Guo, which was glowing angrily, his brightness tripling. San Wu squinted, finding him too bright to look at directly.
“Master! Denglong Guo and the rose are fighting!” Kui Kui drooped her large flower pan. “I don’t know what happened, but they suddenly started to fight!”
“Ah?” San Wu was surprised. “Are they arguing or fighting over territory?”
Her little brothers and the mutated plants had always been peaceful.
Xiao Luobo was butting heads with the furious rose, shouting, “Master, come break it up! The rose is about to be pulled bald!”
“Denglong Guo!” San Wu called out. “What’s going on?”
He was glowing as if he were about to explode.
“The rose said I’ll have to squat in the corner with her from now on! Glowing isn’t a useful skill! A fruit that can’t fight is useless!” Denglong Guo shouted sadly. “Who says useless fruits can only stay in the corner? I’m not a useless fruit!”
“I’m not useless! I’m strong!” Denglong Guo was anxiously stomping his roots.
San Wu hurried over to calm them down. “You’re definitely not useless; Rose isn’t either. Come on, don’t fight.”
At that moment, she really empathized with the kindergarten teachers from ten years ago.
She regretted saying that the rose’s skill wasn’t practical. After all, weather forecasting… was useful, right?
What if they had a trio of vegetables and a quartet of fruits that ended up fighting? Wouldn’t that drive her crazy?
As San Wu tried to pull Denglong Guo closer, she noticed that those glowing fruits had swollen to double their size compared to before. San Wu was momentarily stunned when Ji Lingbai suddenly grabbed her shoulder and pulled her aside. “Watch out!”
In the next moment, those swollen fruits exploded with a bang, their long vines rapidly growing and whipping in all directions.
Streams of fiery red light shot from the fruits, coiling around the branches, leaving deep marks on the ground as they lashed out.
Her little brothers screamed and scattered in all directions.
The vines wrapped in red light alternated between soft and hard; when soft, they could ensnare anything, and when hard, they could pierce through thorns. As they whipped above San Wu’s head, it made her heart race with fear.
Wherever the vines struck, deep imprints were left behind. If it weren’t for the timely dodging of her little brothers nearby, they might have been directly smashed apart.
Everyone was stunned.
The surrounding area was a chaotic mess, with zombies sprawled everywhere. As they scratched their heads and stood up again, they still hadn’t grasped what had just happened.
After about half a minute of commotion, Denglong Guo shrank down completely, his vines retracting limply, unable to support the cute little lights any longer.
The lights flickered a couple of times, struggling like a light bulb about to fail, before quickly going dark.
Denglong Guo was exhausted and panting.
Kui Kui silently withdrew her leaves, retreating three meters away.
Denglong Guo turned toward Kui Kui in confusion. Kui Kui awkwardly waved her leaves, saying, “I’m stepping back to ensure the air is clean for you. That’s beneficial for us plants.”
Tu Dou also took his young ones and hid far away. “I’m just logistics; you all are the fighters. I won’t get involved in your business.”
Ji Lingbai looked at Denglong Guo in surprise. “So it’s not just a light bulb?”
San Wu also thought it was a bulb; it turned out to be a bag that stored energy!
The rose retracted her blooms and quietly retreated to her corner, burrowing deep into the soil.
She had thought she could finally have a companion.
But who would have thought that he was a hidden king?
“Denglong Guo, when can you use that attack again?”
San Wu squatted down in front of Denglong Guo; his fruits were very hot, and she didn’t dare touch them.
“I can use it once a day,” Denglong Guo replied, still out of breath. “Once you grow stronger, I’ll be able to use it more often.”
“Really?” San Wu glanced at her palm.
“Of course! We mutated because of you,” Denglong Guo said, inserting his roots into the soil. A little zombie poured water over him, and the now comfortable Denglong Guo flickered weakly. “Right now, you can’t control the number of mutated plants freely, but once you’re stronger, you’ll be able to manage that.”
“I guessed as much. I think my ability will enhance in two main ways: one is the number of mutated plants, and the other is the purification level of energy.”
