She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 90
San Wu patted Denglong Guo, saying, “You can rest now; I’ll know more about the ability once I level up.”
She looked again at the completely withdrawn rose.
Walking over to her, she sighed, “You can stay anywhere in this village.”
The rose’s tightly closed bud quietly opened a little.
All the flowers turned their gaze toward San Wu.
“You’re not completely useless either.” Just as San Wu finished speaking, it started pouring rain from the sky.
San Wu: “…This is just the forecast; perhaps one day you’ll be able to control the weather. When that time comes, I’ll rely on you to shelter me, okay?”
She wiped the water off her face, comforting the rose in the downpour.
Seeing the heavy rain, the rose perked up again.
She even felt like singing a song.
Seeing her like this, San Wu began to reflect on whether her earlier disdain had left a psychological shadow on this little flower.
With Mei Gui (Rose) happy again, it no longer held a grudge against Denglong Guo. It happily picked the most beautiful flower and offered it to him.
Watching the kindergarten-level reconciliation scene, San Wu nodded in satisfaction.
Ji Lingbai glanced at Denglong Guo; this little one was already starting to show his ability. If he became larger as San Wu’s powers grew, his combat strength would be…
When San Wu lay down, it was already late at night. Several solar-powered lamps outside lit up, enveloping the entire village in a faint glow.
This filled San Wu with a sense of security.
However, she tossed and turned in bed and couldn’t fall asleep. So she went up to the rooftop, where the whole village was in view. The zombies didn’t need sleep and were diligently guarding the village below.
“Why aren’t you sleeping?” Ji Lingbai’s voice came from behind her. He was sitting on the railing of the rooftop balcony, draped in a single garment.
“I can’t sleep.” San Wu leaned against the railing, resting her chin on her hands while looking below. “I used to think I never got enough sleep and always slept lightly. After Ah Si died, every time I opened my eyes, there was no one beside me. I didn’t dare speak to anyone, thinking that everyone wanted to harm me.”
“It’s only during this time that I’ve realized the sky is blue, the water is clear, the food is good, and people are kind.”
Ji Lingbai looked at her. “Why didn’t you come out of the fortress earlier?”
“At first, I couldn’t come out because I had no powers. Later, I didn’t dare.” San Wu leaned
against the railing.
===========================================
Usually a bit whimsical, she now felt a heavy sadness layered upon her, “I thought my ability was just purification, that it couldn’t protect me. I almost lost my life during several outings with the teams from the fortress. Let alone going out alone, I didn’t dare step outside the fortress.”
“I didn’t want to die; I wanted to live.”
“Later, I could hunt low-level zombies on my own, so I finally left the fortress.” San Wu smiled. “If I had dragged A Si out with me sooner, it would have been better.”
“Every time I think about my regrets, it feels suffocating.”
San Wu tightened her collar and turned to Ji Lingbai. “You know almost everything about my situation; what about you?”
“Is there anything that makes you feel regretful to the point of discomfort in your stomach?”
Ji Lingbai genuinely pondered for a moment and honestly replied, “No.”
San Wu was surprised. “Not even one?”
Ji Lingbai affirmed, “No.”
San Wu felt a twinge of bitterness.
“Well, you’ve really had a smooth journey.”
This topic drifted away, and San Wu sighed deeply. Rubbing her eyes, she decided to rest first since there were still things to do tomorrow.
Ji Lingbai decided to stay longer with San Wu instead of rushing back due to the activity over at Wang Hai’s side.
Early in the morning, many parents from the Second Fortress had already brought their zombies, ready to go.
Their zombies either looked dejected or appeared terrified; the notorious reputation of the “Zombies of the Underworld” had begun to spread, and everyone in the Second Fortress had heard of it.
Zhang Fen had previously witnessed the lively scenes at San Wu’s place.
“Zhang Jie, I’ve been meaning to ask, what’s going on in that village?” One of her strongest subordinates, a man named Lin Qisheng, asked while brushing his teeth. “Do those people from the Second Fortress really trust her that much?”
“Why are you asking this?” Zhang Fen tossed aside what she was holding. “Come on, let’s grab some supplies and check on our new neighbor.”
Meanwhile, in the Third Fortress, Wang Hai looked at the last little scout who had returned. “Why does what you say differ from what your brothers reported earlier?”
The little scout had prepared his words on the way back and spoke fluently. “It’s because the situation changed that I came back to report, Boss.” He rubbed his hands nervously. “What should we do next?”
Wang Hai stared at him for half a minute before slowly saying, “If there’s such a good opportunity, of course, we should check it out.”
“That San Wu can control zombies; I need to figure out the key to her control.”
San Wu woke up late, half an hour behind schedule, and her zombies had already set out to earn their keep.
She went downstairs to check her beloved vegetable garden.
Several rice plants were thriving beautifully, along with a patch of vibrant lettuce and some little sorghum.
Aside from these, San Wu spotted some unmutated Red Lady fruits.
She picked one to taste, and a bitter flavor hit her; it was too unripe for her liking, so she decided to let it mature a bit longer.
However, she found some Yellow Lady fruits nearby, which tasted a bit better.
This was the first time San Wu enjoyed real fruit, lifting her spirits.
The Rose nearby recalled the Lamp Fruit’s surprising comeback from yesterday.
