She Raised Zombies in the Apocalypse - Chapter 71
After finally organizing the team, she counted the zombies and lost her smile.
Five were missing.
Her zombies each had a number, making it easy to identify them when bringing back bodies.
She had prepared for this, assuming everyone blocking the zombie tide was the same.
Anyone could suddenly disappear in a battle, including herself.
Death in the apocalypse happens all the time.
It could be as quiet as a leaf rotting at the tree’s base while the world remained cruel.
“Stay still while I check who’s missing.” She took a deep breath to calm herself.
San Wu started checking the zombies’ numbers. They tilted their heads to show their chest tags.
After counting them carefully, she began cross-checking the numbers.
But there were only four among the numbered ones.
Who was the fifth?
San Wu’s body shuddered as she realized something.
“Where the hell is San Yi!”
Given San Yi’s strength, he shouldn’t have been unable to protect himself from that level of beast tide.
…
At that moment, San Yi was utterly nervous.
He was sandwiched between two zombie leaders, walking forward.
He initially went out to quietly eat an egg, but after finishing the food in his bag, he heard the roars of numerous beasts outside.
He tried to run back but was blocked by two zombies.
Both were stronger than him. San Yi wanted to run.
But one of the zombie leaders grabbed him, and after three seconds of hesitation between struggling and compliance, he chose short-term compliance.
They sniffed San Yi carefully.
No unique blood scent of an ability holder.
Zombies raised by ability holders would carry their unique blood scent from long-term consumption, unlike wild zombies that either had a mixed scent or none at all.
“A wild zombie, usable,” one of the zombies nodded, gripping San Yi’s shoulder. “We’re finding the great zombie leader!”
The other added, “Great zombie leader called, come with us.”
Find the great zombie leader? It came here to fight the great zombie leader!
San Yi shook its head vigorously.
Seeing his refusal, the two zombies were displeased and immediately reached for his head, ready to extract the zombie core at any moment.
San Yi stumbled and dodged, but couldn’t avoid the second strike. After getting slapped, realizing the power difference, he started nodding frantically.
Okay, okay!
He tightly clutched the small bag San Wu had given it.
The master said they would have a big meal after this mission.
He couldn’t die yet!
So, San Yi was led away, further and further from the group, and San Wu couldn’t find him.
His simple and obedient demeanor pleased the two zombies.
One even patted its shoulder, “Once there, work hard, drink more blood, and you can level up.”
San Yi nodded while thinking slowly.
He now ate braised pork, potato duck stew, and ginger chicken, no longer drinking that stuff.
These zombies were obviously from deep mountains, having never eaten good food.
The zombies moved quickly, and San Yi, following them, also moved fast.
After about half a day, San Yi saw a vast number of zombies.
Thousands upon thousands, densely packed.
In the center of the zombie group was a high platform.
Everyone was waiting for the great zombie leader to take the stage and lead them to a new pinnacle of zombie life.
San Yi was pushed into the crowd, waiting for the legendary great zombie leader.
It was a skinny old zombie, with eyes so small they were almost negligible, looking eerie.
Once on stage, San Yi felt immense pressure, his legs trembling.
The mental oppression had begun.
“Roar!” The great zombie leader roared, and the zombies below writhed as if thrown into boiling oil, expressing their excitement.
Only San Yi remained still.
The surrounding zombies turned their gaze towards him.
Their eyes were cold and murderous.
San Yi reacted after three seconds, raised his hand, and roared while wriggling his body.
Shake it, shake it!
Blend in, be a part of the group!
Don’t die!
San Yi struggled to blend in with the larger group, and finally, the other zombies stopped paying attention to him.
Just as San Yi was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he heard the great zombie leader roar.
His legs turned to jelly.
While his fellow zombies might also be leaders, they paled in comparison to this great zombie leader.
The horde of zombies created a path, allowing those at the lieutenant level to step forward.
San Yi quickly blended in with the advancing group.
The great zombie leader’s sinister gaze swept over San Yi, making him shrink back, trying to minimize his presence.
This was his specialty.
Indeed, due to the large number of zombies, the great zombie leader didn’t notice San Yi.
The great zombie leader began assigning groups of zombies to those with strength, each given a team.
San Yi received a group of over 150 zombies, mirroring the number he had brought from San Wu, but half of them were low-level, as the stronger middle-level zombies had been claimed by other, more powerful zombie leadners.
The zombies even fought each other for stronger teams, resulting in a bloody mess.
San Yi, however, wished to roll far away, huddling in a corner to avoid offending anyone.
