17-chapter-11

He Xing looked up and saw that Gu Jingxu had no expression. The surrounding staff had all gone to the actors’ side. He stood up and greeted, “Ready to start shooting.”

He whispered to Gu Jingxu again, “Don’t mention this in front of Chi You, so she won’t be upset.”

Gu Jingxu quietly agreed. After the actors were in place and shooting began, he pondered for a moment, then turned to make a phone call.

After listening to the boss’s instructions, Assistant Wang on the other end remained silent for a long time.

Gu Jingxu frowned, saying, “Is it difficult to handle?”

Assistant Wang said, “… It’s not difficult, it’s just that, General Gu, you may not remember, Mr.Chi personally came to the company a few days ago to deliver an invitation. After he left, you said it’s fine to just send a gift and didn’t have time to go.”

He wondered what had happened to make the boss change his mind at the last minute.

But obviously, Gu Jingxu wouldn’t explain to him. After a moment, Gu Jingxu said in a low voice, “The gift remains the same, I’ll go by myself, no need for you to come.”

After hanging up the phone, he turned to look at Chi You, who was filming with a cold face not far away, and walked slowly towards He Xing.

After finishing the two scenes, Chi You drank half a bottle of water to gradually regain her composure. Glancing at the time, she had more than enough time after changing clothes.

After removing her makeup and changing into a fresh set of clothes, Chi You, holding a small handbag, looked around the area. Not finding the person she wanted to see, her eyebrows furrowed slightly. She then turned and left the set.

She thought Gu Jingxu would be waiting for her until she finished filming.

Indeed, she didn’t think she would miscalculate. Chi You pondered where she might have deviated from her plan.

When she saw Gu Jingxu at the crew earlier that day, she suddenly felt that if Gu Jingxu accompanied her to the Chi family’s banquet, the expressions on Chi family’s parents’ faces would have been quite interesting.

However, things didn’t go as she imagined, but it was okay to follow the original plan.

She replied to the messages one by one, then suddenly saw a call from He Xing on her phone.

Without hesitation, she clicked to answer. “Director He?”

“Baby—no, Chi, Chi You, where are you? Have you left yet?”

Chi You halted her steps, a smile played on her lips. Her voice was gentle as she said, “Not yet, outside the set. What’s up, Director He?”

“Um, that, well…”

Before He Xing could finish his words, a black Maybach approached slowly from a distance. Chi You’s gaze fell on the car, which stopped, and the car window rolled down, revealing the smoothly contoured profile of a man.

Gu Jingxu’s eyes were dark, and he tilted his head slightly. “Did He Xing tell you? I’ll give you a ride.”

Chi You raised an eyebrow, and the sense of failure she had just felt vanished instantly. He Xing had already hung up the call, and she showed a fitting smile. “Thank you, Mr. Gu.”

The girl got into the front passenger seat and fastened her seatbelt without waiting for him to speak. Gu Jingxu didn’t turn his head to look at her, but the corner of his eye could catch her still smiling.

Gu Jingxu’s Adam’s apple rolled up and down, an action he didn’t realize himself as a hint of caution entered his movements.

Chi You didn’t show any restraint, as if Gu Jingxu were not the cold and elegant figure at the A University graduation ceremony, nor the influential head of the Gu family.

Her attitude was as natural as if they had known each other for a long time, like close friends.

Gu Jingxu slowly started the car and asked her where she wanted to go.

Chi You’s smile didn’t fade, and she softly mentioned a location.

Gu Jingxu, with a precisely timed pause in his actions, naturally said, “What a coincidence, I’m heading there too.”

Chi You’s gaze seemed to be casually resting on him, and Gu Jingxu’s arm muscles subconsciously tensed. He heard her voice, clearly with a hint of laughter.

“So, Mr. Gu is also going to the Chi family’s banquet. Do you think I need to change into another outfit before going?”

Chi You’s voice was calm as she looked down at her phone, casually saying this sentence.

Gu Jingxu pursed his lips and, when the traffic light turned red, turned his head to look at her. “Do you need an evening gown? There’s a Gu’s store nearby…”

Before he could finish his sentence, Chi You burst into laughter.

She seemed to be in a good mood.

Gu Jingxu’s voice unconsciously stopped. The girl laughed happily, with a slight uplift at the corner of her eyes, presenting a bright face in front of him.

In the silent seconds that followed, the audible sound of their heartbeats could be sensed.

After a moment, Chi You suddenly turned her head to look at him. The playful glint in her eyes had faded, replaced by a hint of meaning he couldn’t quite decipher.

“Is Mr. Gu always this kind to all women?”

Gu Jingxu’s heart skipped a beat. Subconsciously holding his breath, before he could answer, Chi You withdrew her gaze.

“The light is green, Mr. Gu.”
