19-chapter-13

Chi You couldn’t be bothered to even sneer. She stopped walking and said to Gu Jingxu, “Mr. Gu, I’ll take my leave first.”

Gu Jingxu’s gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he gave a slight nod.

Without a second thought, Chi You ignored her adoptive mother, who had already approached, ready to act out a close mother. With a strong sense of purpose, she walked towards Xu Xueyin’s location.

There was a moment of awkwardness on Mrs. Chi’s face, and her lips stiffened. She cursed Chi You in her heart and then forced a smile, joining Mr. Chi in chatting with Gu Jingxu.

In front of Gu Jingxu, Chi You considered all those matters for later discussion. She had anticipated the scene when she brought Gu Jingxu with her, and she was content to enjoy the tranquility. Unhurried, she looked at the man in the hall with unwavering eyes.

A man with a handsome appearance, broad shoulders, and a slim waist wore a well-fitted suit. He was tall and stood out among the crowd. His facial features were noble, with a striking facial contour. He nodded occasionally, but no one knew if he was actually listening to the conversations around him.

How could someone be so perfectly aligned with her preferences?

Chi You sighed once again.

Satisfied, she withdrew her gaze and noticed Xu Xueyin standing in front of her, looking down and hesitating to speak.

“I’m here. Aren’t you happy?”

Xu Xueyin hurriedly replied, “It’s not me this time! It’s my mother… She wanted you to come.”

Last time, it was indeed arranged by Xu Xueyin for her to apologize.

However, this banquet seemed unrelated to her.

Chi You remained noncommittal, a faint smile playing on her lips. Xu Xueyin, looking at the man in the center of the hall, suddenly asked, “What’s your relationship with that person?”

“Curious?” Chi You tilted her head.

Xu Xueyin nodded.

She genuinely wanted to know why the person who was being fawned upon by the Chi parents would be with Chi You.

Chi You’s face always carried a smile. It seemed like she couldn’t wait to do something as she reached out and pinched Xu Xueyin’s cheek. “Not telling you.”

Xu Xueyin instinctively covered her face, feeling a bit lost at Chi You’s words.

She felt like Chi You had changed somehow.

At that moment, Chi You approached her again. “Whether you want me at this banquet or not, one thing is certain. When that person arrives, nothing you want to happen will happen.”

If the man didn’t come, the Chi parents would either resist the temptation of the fake heiress, feeling immense pain but not yielding, or the real heiress would receive overwhelming praise while the fake one would leave in disappointment.

None of that would happen.

Xu Xueyin dared not imagine how much Chi You knew about her thoughts. She tried to stand up, but Chi You had already stood up ahead of her.

She watched as Chi You walked unhurriedly towards a group of people, whispered something to Gu Jingxu, and then, with the same expression she had when talking to her, spoke to the Chi parents.

She saw Mrs. Chi’s expression change drastically.

However, Chi You just lowered her eyes, smiled beautifully, and then turned and left.

Chi You… really had no intentions regarding the Chi family.

She had truly driven Chi You away.

Xu Xueyin stood frozen in place. Even though she had anticipated such a scene after learning that she was the real Chi heiress, she couldn’t find any joy in it.

Just as Chi You left the villa, she heard footsteps behind her.

She glanced at her phone.

One minute.

Not exactly satisfied, but her mood was good. So, when Gu Jingxu called her to get in the car, she obediently complied.

Gu Jingxu was quite intelligent. He had somewhat guessed that his presence had spared Chi You a lot of trouble that night. Combined with He Xing’s words, he had a rough idea of Chi You’s current situation.

But as he stopped the car in front of the girl’s apartment complex, he paused for a moment before speaking, “Can you adapt to living here?”

It was an old residential area, with dirty and cracked walls, and it didn’t appear to have an elevator.

Upon hearing his words, Chi You slightly turned her head and asked, “Mr. Gu, do you really want to know?”

Every time she called him “Mr. Gu”, his eyelids couldn’t help but twitch.

Feeling that Chi You’s tone was a bit off, he subconsciously wondered if his association with the Chi family had caused her to vent her anger on him.

For the first time in Gu Jingxu’s life, such words came up, and he found it challenging to respond. After a pause, he said, “Do you want to go back to the Chi family? I can help you.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he saw Chi You’s expression turn cold.

“Mr. Gu, didn’t you notice that Mrs. Chi is not welcoming me at all? Or do you just enjoy arranging everything for others without their consent?”

The girl’s voice was pleasant to the ears, but her words seemed to carry a hint of sharpness.

Realizing his mistake, Gu Jingxu awkwardly organized his thoughts and felt a rare sense of frustration.

However, in the next moment, Chi You inexplicably chuckled. “Were you like this when approaching girls in the past?”

Gu Jingxu’s expression changed, looking at Chi You’s teasing eyes. Once again, that unfamiliar emotion welled up in his heart.
